What most don't realize is that BSG, unlike Appy, has the resources and the knowledge to form their own magnate school, or better yet, apply for a city charter and then make their own city school system. Far fetched, but a distinct possibility nonetheless.

I have always been for consolidation and still am, but look at it this way, why was St. Paul left alone and the others are to be closed down? If you are gonna consolidate, then close all of them and start new. Land is already owned by the county behind P.V. and land is owned by the county behind JJ Kelly. Why not just build 2 on 2? Oh and they also own land between Coeburn and St. Paul. All this land is what they call "virgin land" meaning it has not been strip mined.

I can see the folks from BSG voting to raise taxes and buy the buildings inside their "city" from the county. I bet more than 50% of the kids in the BSG schools don't live in the town. I'm thinking that might put a damper on BSG becoming a city and trying to fund their own school system. St. Paul is going to fix itself- either the out-of-county kids will go home, or the taxes from the power plant and the folks that move in the area to be closer to work. Either way, it gets it's own funding and influx of kids or it closes itself.

This isn't about Powell Valley losing their school. We accepted that fact years ago, unlike Appalachia, who is still hung up on a rivalry in which they have been dominated the past several years. This is about a plan like 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 that is completely and utterly absurd.

As long as the school isn't in BSG I don't care. We are giving up a school, what is BSG giving up??? PUT A FORK IN IT BECAUSE IT IS DONE!!!!! We are going to Norton or Wise wherever they build it. As Forrest Gump would say ,"and thats all I got to say about that".

Well at least simple man tries to gives some legit reasons on his argument.

The problem is, dawgman here, gives the reason most Appy folk (who are against consolidation) were against losing their school for this reason, not because they could care less if they have a school in Appy or not.

Dawgman here is for the 2-on-1 simply to be spiteful, no other reason. The sad part is, the BOS and SB have fallen for this line of hockey.

That's the exact reason.

All the blame for this mess is on the BOS and SB members from BSG and Appalachia. The others would have easily approved 3 schools on 3 sites. They did on the SB, and the representative from the south end of the county on the BOS had their own agendas and wouldn't approve it.

The school board presented 6 plans last week and the 2-on-1 was the only one the BOS would fund.

You have a few really intelligent and caring people on the SB and BOS, but you have a few idiots that have made this mess for us.

As dawgman says, it's a done deal, so better make your plans to accept it.
